Hwy. 427 northbound repaired at night
Lane, bridge repairs approach $22 million
Reconstruction is under way to rehabilitate Hwy. 427's northbound express lanes, a project slated to take two years. Markham-based Brennan Paving and Construction Limited began work in May on a nearly $22-million contract to repair lanes, 10 bridges and retaining walls from the QEW north to Hwy. 401.
Construction involving lane closures will take place at night during off-peak hours, Ministry of Transportation spokesperson Bob Nichols said Friday, July 4.
The eastbound ramp from The Queensway to northbound Hwy. 427 will be closed throughout the 2009 construction season.
This is the third of five projects worth approximately $127 million needed to maintain Hwy. 427, the ministry states.
An end is in sight for the highway's second project involving the southbound Hwy. 427 ramps to Toronto and Hamilton. That project is expected to end later this year, Nichols said.
The Hwy. 427 southbound ramp to Toronto will have intermittent night closures with a detour in place. The ramp to Hamilton will have one lane closed for two months starting later this week for repairs to bridges on the ramp.
Current work on the ramps' project involves repairs to four bridges, as well as to the concrete base.
More than 300,000 drivers use Hwy. 427 daily, MTO statistics indicate.
