West Hill Golden Hawks peewee selects win tourney undefeated

The West Hill Golden Hawks Peewee house league select team not only won the Cedar Hill Rebels Spring Break Hockey tournament, they went undefeated.

"The chemistry on the team is good," said Joe Chapman, team manager. "They've really come together as a team through the course of the year. That's what makes them so good."

He added they are a fast, hard-hitting team.

The team is made up of players from the West Hill house league who form the select team and play in tournaments.

There are 17 boys on the team who are 12 years old.

Most of their tournaments are held in the GTA.

The captain, Liam Niven, is a top scorer with 13 goals and 11 assists in his tournament play.

"Good goaltending also helped them as well," Chapman said. "Their playing has been outstanding."

Elijah Shark and Trevor Salt are the team's goaltenders.

"The competition was tough," he said. "Our toughest competition would have been Oshawa. They have some great teams."

Their next tournament is their own, the West Hill Shamrock tournament, on April 11 to 13 and April 18 to 20.

All levels play are offered in the Shamrock tournament with about 60 teams competing.

"This will be one of toughest tournaments for the Golden Hawks because it brings together two teams that they've played against all year who are good competition for the boys," he said, adding the teams are from Georgina and Oshawa.

The Shamrock tournament is being held at Canlan Ice Sports at 159 Dynamic Dr., near Markham Road and Steeles Avenue.

Games will be played on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
