York South-Weston MP Alan Tonks was unanimously selected by Liberal MPs Wednesday to chair the party's Ontario caucus.

"I am honoured to have the full support of the Ontario caucus in the role of chair," he said in a statement.

"Ontario caucus is not only the largest Liberal caucus but also the most diverse. I look forward to not only highlighting the important issues facing Ontarians, but also to work with my colleagues to find solutions."

Tonks has been MP for York South-Weston since 2000. He was re-elected for a fourth term in last month's federal election.

Meanwhile, Etobicoke North MP Kirsty Duncan, a first-time MP, was chosen for Tonks' old job, chairing the party's GTA caucus.
