The Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue intersection was closed for much of Monday after a transport truck crashed into a traffic light pole, causing downed wires and stopping a TTC bus for about half an hour.

The truck collided with the pole at roughly 4 a.m. and allegedly fled the scene, police said. The driver was stopped shortly thereafter in the Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue area and was subsequently charged with careless driving.

Hydro wires fell onto a TTC bus making an early morning route, leaving the driver and a handful of passengers stuck inside.

"They were somewhat trapped on the bus," said Const. Wendy Drummond of Toronto police.

"It appears the (fallen) wires were on top of the bus, so they couldn't get out."

Drummond added that, despite the danger faced by those on the bus, there were no reported injuries at the scene.

The Bathurst and Eglinton intersection was expected to remain closed until roughly 2 p.m. while hydro crews worked to tend to the downed power lines.
