An inquest beginning in late January will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at the Scarborough Hospital while in police custody more than three years ago.
Jeffrey George Black, 18, died at the Grace campus on Oct. 18 2005 following an altercation with York Regional Police.
Under the Coroner's Act, an inquest is mandatory when a person dies in police custody.
The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest begins Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. at the Aurora town hall and is expected to last three weeks.
Dr. William Lucas, regional supervising coroner for Ontario's central region, will preside.
