Forties make a comeback in fashion accessories this season
Fall fashion
With all the jewels accentuating clothes this fashion season and the fabrics being shimmery and sheer metallics, accessories are not as big as they were in the spring and summer. However, a great bag and shoes are always in style.Purses range from small clutch purses to large handbags. The smaller purses are hot in a variety of styles, including the envelope style (the top of purse folds over and clicks to close, like an envelope) and slim clutches and framed-shaped purses (they have a latch fastening the purse closed at the top).
While the basic black purse never goes out of style, the similarity between all these purses is that they, too, are in fun metallic colours like gold, silver, greys, whites and pewter.
Following the trend that tops and sweaters are seeing, belts this season are also adorned and studded with stones and jewels. Wrap around tie-knot belts are also a hot trend. Over-sized waist cinching belts are a must-have this season and if you want to match the trend, try one in metallic silver or gold.
Shoes are solid yet feminine, incorporating carefully designed details and giving an elegant look to silhouettes. Toes continue to be rounded, but pointy toed shoes are always in style. Heels continue to be solid, but with more shape.
Women's boots look sophisticated and elegant. What's interesting about the boots of the fall and winter season is that all lengths are in trend. Try a knee-high, mid-calf or cropped and ankle-skimming boot. High boots over the knees are also in and can be paired with a '60s-style short A-line dress. Materials are thicker, silhouettes are loose fitting and fastenings are minimal.
While the classic black or brown boot is always trendy, boots will also follow the metallic craze and have either in a sheen or be made of solid shiny metallic colours like silver or antique gold. Patent leather and suede are also the materials to look for in a boot, however the shoe-boot is the hot item this season.
While jewelry is kept to a minimum this season, to match the '40s dramatic look, try antique-style coins or keys in bracelets, charms or necklaces. Look for Victorian silver coin necklaces and Victorian-carved onyx lockets and long chain necklaces to compliment those long sweaters or sweater dresses
Adorn your head with wide headbands in metallics, black and jewel-tone colours, adorned with glitzy stoneware.
Gloves are still classic, but some also have this season's hottest trend, the metallic sheen or lurex. There are also lady-like, longer gloves that extend to the elbow to accommodate the elbow-length 1940s-sleeved coats.
Because there is such a variation in eras and styles of coats, scarves are also available in a variety of different widths this season. Scarves range from skinny to wide like a shawl, which pair well with the 1940s-glam look.
For a more casual look, try a cable knit scarf and for a more luxurious look, try a faux fur. Shades of purple and classic black and grey colours are a trendy choice in scarves.
