It's 'Super Sunday' for the Canadians at the Beijing Olympics and medal hopes are high.
Here are some updates on Toronto notables:
It was the big day for Whitby native and Toronto resident Chris Cook, as he entered the medals round in sailing - Finn class. He finished eighth.
On the water, Jon Beare of Toronto and his teamamtes took bronze in the lightweight men's 4 final A and Andrew Byrnes of Toronto is celebrating today after earning gold in the men's 8 final A. Ashley Brzozowicz of Toronto and her teammates finished out of the medals in the women's 8 final A.
Carline Muir (formerly of Etobicoke) has qualified for the semi-final in the women's 400M at the National Stadium after coming third in her round of the qualifier Saturday morning. The semi-finals begin Sunday at 9 p.m. ( 9 a.m. in Ontario). An excited Muir said after her race, "I pushed hard right to the end. It was an awesome way to start my first Olympic experience. Now I’m going to rest and get ready for another PB in the semis!”
The men's field hockey team, heavy populated with players from Mississauga and Toronto, took to the field against Great Britain playing to a 1-1 tie. They have a record of 0-1-3.
